Your budget, goals, and needs will determine this:

• While hard to break into traditional publishing, it requires less original effort and is longer, but provides industry credibility, wider distribution, and professional management.
• You will have total control over your content, design, royalties, and pricing when you self-publish, but you will also be in charge of all marketing, expenses, and logistics.
• Self-publishing is an option if you want to be published more quickly and have the freedom to write anything you want.If you want production, editing, and distribution services and are willing to undergo an approval process, traditional publishing is the option.

There are three large categories of publishing:

1. Traditional Publishing: Once the advance is paid, normally the author gets the royalties and the publisher covers everything else. The publisher distributes, prints, designs, and edits.
2. Self-Publishing: Everything is paid for by the author and they have complete control from the marketing to the cover design to the editing. The most widely used are IngramSpark and Amazon KDP.
3. Hybrid Publishing: A combination of the two; authors receive professional services for paying for some of the services (most commonly up-front). There are some good hybrid publishers out there, but it is wise that you do your homework because quality and price can be a risk.
