This means checking for anything that reads awkwardly out loud, flagging tricky names or pronunciations, and marking up chapter breaks, pauses, and any parts that need a different tone or pace. A book that reads well on the page does not always sound natural when spoken, so this step matters more than people expect.
If you need a narrator, we help you find the right voice for your book. Fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, and business audiobooks all need different things from a narrator. We will talk through pacing, accent, and tone with you before anyone is booked, so there are no surprises later. If you or someone from your team wants to narrate the book yourselves, we can coach and direct that recording instead.

Raw recordings always need work. A good editor removes breaths, mouth clicks, page turns, and background hum, tightens up pauses, and makes sure the pacing does not drag or rush. We also check for consistency, so a character or tone does not shift halfway through a chapter by accident. This is one of the stages people notice most when it is done badly, and barely notice at all when it is done well, which is exactly how it should be.
Once the editing is done, we balance the volume so quiet passages and loud ones sit at a comfortable, even level throughout. We also master the final files to meet the technical standards required by platforms like Audible, Apple Books, and Spotify, so you are not left dealing with a rejected upload months after you thought the job was finished.

Our space is treated to reduce echo and outside noise, so the recording captures a clean, natural voice with nothing else picked up in the background. Listeners notice room noise and inconsistent sound quality far more than they notice small performance mistakes, which can usually be fixed in editing anyway.
We also work with visiting narrators, so if your chosen voice actor is not local to Wales, we can still make the session work.
A lot of recording studios are built with music in mind, which is a different job entirely. Spoken word recording needs its own setup: the right microphone distance, pop filters, and a director on hand who understands pacing, breath control, and how to keep a narrator consistent across a long session.
